WWE: 5 Best Summerslam PPVs in History

3. Summerslam 2002

The difference between a good PPV and a great PPV is often the quality of the undercard. While people pay to see the main event, that doesn€™t mean we should have to sit through two hours of matches with no build up or story. Summerslam 2002 was a great example of a good undercard. Kurt Angle and Rey Mysterio kicked off the night in decent fashion, Edge and Eddie Guerrero had a solid match and RVD and Chris Benoit put on a great match for the Intercontinental Championship. The two main event matches were both classics. Shawn Michaels made his return to the ring after a four-year hiatus in an absolutely brilliant battle with Triple H. For almost 25-minutes the pair destroyed each other before an emotional ending when HBK got his revenge on his former compatriot. Then came the big one: The Rock losing the Undisputed Championship to Brock Lesnar in the handing over of the torch. This was the moment when the €˜Next Big Thing€™ took up the mantle as it was becoming increasingly apparent that Rock was heading to Hollywood and Austin towards retirement.
