WWE: 5 Best Summerslam PPVs in History

By Jamie Callaghan /

1. Summerslam 2000

Top-to-bottom brilliance, this is another example of why the year 2000 was the best. Between a 2-out-of-3 falls match, the first ever table, ladders and chairs match and a triple threat between €˜The Game€™, €˜The Great One€™ and the Olympic gold medallist, this Summerslam had everything and is the perfect example of how a WWE PPV should be. The first four matches were short and solid, but nothing exceptional. The bout between Shane McMahon and Steve Blackman for the Hardcore Championship was never going to be a wrestling clinic, but when Shane fell from the side of the titantron he almost stole the show. Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho then battled for the Intercontinental Title in a 2/3 falls match. With only 13 minutes for the entire match it was a little disappointing but they did well with the time allocated for them. Then came the tag team match. But not any tag team match. No. The first ever tables, ladders and chairs match between The Dudleys, the Hardys and Edge and Christian. Their meeting at WrestleMania 2000 wasn€™t officially a TLC bout, even though they effectively used all three pieces of apparatus, but this was just as good, if not better. They stole the show. It€™s a must-watch match that unfortunately demonstrates how good a tag team division can be. Undertaker and Kane did battle once more in a short and very mediocre match. The finale was the triple threat for the WWF Championship between Kurt Angle, Triple H and The Rock. The feud between Kurt Angle and Triple H over the gold medallists€™ desire for Stephanie was one of the best of the year and for once the focus wasn€™t totally on Rocky. It was the third generation wrestler who entered-and-left the WWF Champion after a great match. HH
