Summerslam 2012 looks like a solid show on paper. There is the possibility that The Miz Vs Rey Mysterio or Chris Jericho Vs Dolph Ziggler could steal the show and Id have money on the latter being among the Match of the Year candidates. The big three matches are the World Heavyweight Championship bout between Sheamus and Alberto Del Rio, the WWE Title triple threat, with CM Punk defending his 9-month reign against John Cena and the Big Show, and the grudge-match between Triple H and Brock Lesnar. While the seven-confirmed matches look promising there has been an obvious lack of build-up for this PPV. Most on screen promo time has been dedicated to the WWE Title triple threat and the Lesnar/Triple H battle. For example, Kane Vs Daniel Bryan seems to have been thrown together after the Big Red Monster randomly attacked Bryan following an anger management session. So many of the matches have also been decided by number-one contender matches, which highlights a lack of storylines.
WWE Tag Team Championship match Kofi Kingston and R-Truth © Vs Prime Time Players Kofi Kingston and R-Truth have held the tag team titles for almost four months and despite the loss of their manager A.W, the PTP have been on the brink of a title run for some time. The Prime Time Players earned their shot at the belts when they defeated Epico and Primo by DQ and since then theyve been getting in the heads of the champs. There has be some online criticism of Kingston and Truth and support for the PTP; somewhat fuelled by the firing of their manager. Id expect that average PPV tag team match: a 10-minute, solid but uninspiring match, which will probably open the show. Due to the fact that Kingston and Truth have held the titles for quite some time, I wouldnt be surprised to see the Prime Time Players stealing a victory.
