10 Essential Marvel Events Not Yet Used In The Movies

These guys sure do love their crossovers.

Here's a fact: Marvel has had many, many crossover events over the past few decades. Some of them are.... forgettable, is the nicest way anyone can put it. Some of them, however, are as iconic as any superhero or story arc, with crossovers such as Civil War making their way into the public consciousness through film and TV.

While many titles and events have already been depicted on the big screen, some with the same name, like Age of Ultron, and some having their major elements pulled for other blockbusters, such as Planet Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, there are still quite a few status quo changing incidents in the Marvel comics universe that haven't found new life in Disney's biggest moneymaker and Hollywood's blockbuster darling, the MCU.

And while they won't always fit into the MCU's current canon, ten years in the making, it seems like the recent Disney-Fox merger and rumours of time travel and multiverse shenanigans will open up new possibilities for the biggest name in Hollywood for the next few, let's say, decades.

Luckily for them, they have lots of memorable, interesting, and adaptable titles they can draw from...

10. Fear Itself

Avengers Siege Norman Osborn Iron Man Thor Captain America
Marvel Comics

A battle for the ages that'll have to exist outside of current MCU continuity (just as likely to find life in an animated feature or standalone alternate universe film), Fear Itself sees the heroes of the Marvel Universe facing the fear and doubt sewn by The Serpent, a powerful Asgardian being seeking revenge on Odin, who imprisoned him.

Brought about when Sin, daughter of the Red Skull, finds the hammer of Skadi and gives rise to the "heralds of the Serpent", the subsequent battle is epic in proportion, with memorable moments including the shattering of Captain America's shield, Odin threatening to destroy Earth simply to annihilate the Serpent, to Iron Man working with the dwarves of Svartalfheim to forge Uru-enhanced weaponry and armour for his allies, as well as repairing Cap's shield with some Uru metal.

Some small elements of this story have been seen in Age of Ultron, when Wanda gives the Avengers visions of their greatest fears and regrets, as well as when Thor visits Svartalfheim to forge a weapon rather than Iron Man. However, it would still make for a good story to see onscreen all on its own.
