10 Things You Need To Know About The New DC Characters

Capes needed beyond this point.

While Marvel have set the standard and tone for how comic book movies are supposed to be done, and be commercially successful at the same time, DC and Warner Bros. have sat by and seemingly not had much of a plan for their superhero franchises. That looks like it has changed though, with the companies finally deciding to catch up to Marvel in the cinematic landscape. Back in October they announced an absolutely huge slate of films that you'll be treated to in the coming years, with all of their superheroes coming in to play. There will be Suicide Squad in 2016, Wonder Woman in 2017, The Flash and Aquaman in 2018, Shazam in 2019, and then Cyborg and Green Lantern in 2020. They€™ll all come alongside the already announced Batman v Superman in 2016 and the Justice League film, which will be split into two parts, in 2017 and 2019 respectively. It€™s now apparent that the companies are taking the opposite path to the one Marvel has taken, giving us their team up films first before the heroes venture out alone. While everyone is already pretty clued up on whom Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are, some of the new characters on the list will be pretty unknown to all those who aren€™t fans of the comic books. Two of those newcomers will be Aquaman and Shazam, with the first to be played by Jason Momoa of Game of Thrones fame, and the latter yet to be cast. While you might be aware of who Aquaman is, it is arguable that he doesn€™t carry the same cultural powers as the likes of Batman and Superman, while years of jokes about the character have tarnished a pretty cool superhero. With that in mind, it was decided it was time to compile a list of some of the most important facts about the pair of new characters, such as their history, their powers and even their supporting cast, and hopefully teach you who€™s who and what€™s what before their introductions to the big screen in the next few years.
