11 Comic Book Origins That Were Very Different In The Movies

10. Venom (2018)

With the 2018 Venom film attempting to avoid making explicit reference to Spider-Man, the alien parasite's backstory naturally had to change pretty majorly.

In the comic universe, the creature's entire bond with Eddie Brock is initially based around defeating Spider-Man, who had been the Klyntar's first proper host, with the alien joining with Brock after sensing that he, too, hated Peter Parker.

As this plotline was off the table for the film version, Venom instead is based of the Venom: Lethal protector storyline. While not Venom's actual origins, the comic is one of few comics to not also feature Marvel's famous web-slinger as a main character, and so makes an appropriate jumping-off point for the film itself.

Transforming a halfway point in Venom's comic run into his film origins is a difficult task though, and many of the flaws that Venom has been slated for are likely due to just how challenging it would be to rewrite the anti-hero's story without including his most important enemy.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
