11 Comic Book Origins That Were Very Different In The Movies

9. Wonder Woman (2017)

Catwoman Batman Returns Origin
Warner Bros.

Of the four different origin stories Wonder Woman has had over the years, none of them exactly match with the origins that Diana Prince gains in the 2017 film adaptation.

Key parts have been kept; for example, Diana is still an Amazon raised in Themyscira, and still ends up leaving her homeland due to Allied soldier Steve Trevor. But aside from this, the story has seen some drastic alterations, with the war Steve is involved with being changed from World War II to the First World War, and Diana's powers coming from extreme training and a powerful bloodline, instead of a direct blessing from the gods.

Both of these huge changes have reasonable explanations, as linking Wonder Woman to the Second World War would have made her too similar to Captain America, and having her bestowed with the powers of gods would have made Shazam's film seem a repeat of Wonder Woman's.

However, with Wonder Woman's backstory having already been rewritten so many times, it seems to needlessly complicate things further to throw another one on the already considerable pile.
