Gotham: 15 Craziest Moments

13. Theo Galavan Kills Penguin's Mother (Season 2, Episode 7 - 'Mommy's Little Monster')

The manner in which Gertrud Kapelput (Carol Kane) was murdered wasn't particularly crazy for Gotham. She was stabbed in the back - both literally and figuratively - as Galavan (James Frain) pretended to let her go. The crazy element of this scene was Penguin's (Robin Lord Taylor) reaction and the quick succession of emotions we saw him go through.

Robin Lord Taylor was excellent at portraying Penguin's temper and eccentricity, but this scene provided him with the opportunity to flex his skills a little more. Betrayal turned to anger, to relief, to despair, and finally, to grief.

Penguin may have been one of Gotham's most powerful villains but that didn't stop him from being a mommy's boy. Seeing his sentimental side was more out of the ordinary than all of the anger and violence he'd exerted up until this moment.
