Gotham Season 5: 3 Ups & 1 Down From 'I Am Bane'

2. It's Incredibly Humorous

Much like the previous instalment of the Fox series, I Am Bane manages to inject a little bit of humour into the dark material that's being dealt with. The dialogue is incredibly witty, and lends itself well to the multiple laugh-out-loud moments scattered throughout the episode.

Of course, much of the humour comes from our usual suspects, Oswald Cobblepot and Ed Nygma. The pair face a lot of issues with their plan to escape the city in this one, which results in plenty of humorous interactions among the gruesome twosome - many of which are reminiscent of something we would've seen in the '60s Batman TV series.

It's not just Ed and Oswald that provide the laughs, however, as Barbara herself is on fire throughout the episode. Her escape in a wheelchair - courtesy of Lee - is nothing short of side-splitting, as she shoots her attempted-kidnappers while going through the pains of labour. Writers James Stoteraux and Chad Fiveash deserve an award for this one.
