How Jane Foster Becomes Thor
7. The MCU Interpretation
Whereas the comic book Jane Foster was a nurse-turned-doctor who became romantically involved with Donald Blake/Thor, the Marvel Cinematic Universe take on Jane slightly varies from the source material.
Instead of being a nurse, the MCU Jane - as played by Natalie Portman - is an astronomer. Having graduated from Culver University, Jane is taken under the wing of her father's BFF Erik Selvig. Opting to dedicate her life to her work, Foster spends her time forever looking at ways to explore the stars and the mysteries that lie amongst them.
In fact, it was an abnormal weather event that actually drew her to New Mexico - which is the placed where she would famously first meet the crash-landed Thunder God, Thor.
As a nice nod to the comics, that 2011 offering features Easter eggs that let the audience know that Jane previously dated a medical doctor called Donald Blake. Going further, the first t-shirt Chris Hemsworth's Thor was given to wear was one sporting Blake's name, whilst a forged ID card for the God of Thunder likewise saw him given the name of Donald Blake.
