While Morbius and Venom 2 are on the way for Sony’s
Spider-Verse later this year, the studio has moved to announce a new Marvel
movie for next year. To be precise, this mystery film has been set for October
At this stage, it’s yet to be even hinted at by Sony at just
who or what could be the focus of this picture, although online speculation suggests
that the Jessica Drew incarnation of Spider-Woman may be at the centre
of the movie.
Created by Archie Goodwin and Marie Severin, Drew debuted
back in 1977’s Marvel Spotlight #32. A badass spy who has been a part of heavy-hitting
groups such as The Avengers, S.H.I.E.L.D., and even HYDRA, Jessica has a whole
host of abilities at her literal fingertips – such as enhanced strength and
reflexes, pheromone manipulation, bio-electric energy projection, and some
swanky gliding skills.
Spider-Woman as the focus of this October 2021 movie is all
simply rumour right now, but Sony has had plans for a female-fronted
Marvel movie as far back as 2014.
In addition to this, solo movies have also been mooted for
Black Cat, Silver Sable, Kraven the Hunter, Nightwatch, Jackpot, Silk, Madame
Web, and even Aunt May.
Given how that October ’21 release date would mean that
production on this mystery Marvel movie would realistically need to begin in
the second half of this year, it could well be sooner rather than later that
full details of this film are made public.
