Star Wars: The High Republic - Everything We Know So Far

8. It's Set 200 Years Before The Phantom Menace

One of the most significant aspects of the High Republic project, and what keeps it form stepping on the toes of existing Star Wars canon is its place in the established timeline.

While entries in other media have looked back thousands of years into Star Wars history - the Knights of the Old Republic games for example - High Republic is positioned around 200 years prior to the events of The Phantom Menace.

This move ensures that it neither impinges on the familiar territory of Vader and co., and is far enough removed that fans will not be clamouring for the likes of Bastila Shan and Darth Malak to make a cameo appearance.

This means that the writers have unconstrained scope to craft their stories and introduce exciting new elements to the Star Wars mythos, without having to constantly reference Vader, Solo, Kenobi and co.

Looking at the official artwork released so far, we can already see evidence of these new ideas, with a ton of unusual lightsaber styles in the hands of the Jedi.

Double bladed weapons, Kylo Ren-esque crossguard hilts, and even something which looks a lot like the Darksaber are all in evidence here.
