The Batman: Dream Casting Matt Reeves' Trilogy

9. Hugo Strange - F. Murray Abraham

Mr Freeze
Fox Searchlight Pictures

A majority of Batman's best villains have been ones that aren't physically threatening. Many of The Dark Knight's foes have tried to tear him down from the inside, using emotional or mental torture and that always made for a better villain than a physically imposing one.

For Dr. Hugo Strange, he's a villain that does not have to outmatch Bruce's physicality, or prepare elaborately themes traps to cause distress for him.

Psychological damage aimed at the Dark Knight is a common occurrence in Gotham City. But, where villains like the Riddler are constantly trying to prove how much smarter they are than Batman, Hugo Strange understands and dismantles the psyche of Batman in ways that others could not imagine.

Casting F. Murray Abraham as Hugo Strange would be a dream come true. Aside from being just a phenomenally great actor who is no stranger to playing menacing figures (playing Dar Adal in Homeland), F. Murray Abraham could carry the hauntingly sophisticated mannerisms and intellect of Hugo Strange.

We've seen many sides to F. Murray Abraham over his long career. His Oscar-Winning performance in Amadeus was not only well deserved, but showed a vulnerable, frustrated side to him that would be an excellent contrast when Batman finally bests him.

I overthink a lot of things. Will talk about pretty much anything for a great length of time. I'm obsessed with General Slocum from the 2002 Spider-Man film. I have questions that were never answered in that entire trilogy!
