Why Spider-Man WON 2018

Marvel had an unbeatable year, but it was all thanks to Stan Lee and Steve Ditko's creation.

Recent years have been kind to superheroes of every shape and size, especially those coming from the Big Two (Marvel and DC). Yet, when you think of the most famous characters to originate from either of these publishers, there are still always three that come instantly to mind: Superman, Batman and, of course, Spider-Man - the world's favourite friendly neighbourhood web-slinger.

In spite of his massive cultural status, however, Spidey's presence in more mainstream mediums - like games and movies - has always felt removed from the rest of the genre, with his Sony ownership separating him from the rest of Marvel's on-screen heroes for so many years. It remained that way for many years, until 2018.

Starting with his role in this April's Avengers: Infinity War, Spidey has gone from strength to strength, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that he more than deserves a place at the adult's table, and that he is the one still standing alongside the pop icons of Superman and Batman. He's even left them in the dust in many respects, dominating on the big screen, gaming and comic books themselves.
