10 Actors Who Played Multiple Marvel Roles
2. Ryan Reynolds
First: Wisecracking, gun-toting loudmouth Hannibal King in Blade: Trinity.
But Then: Wisecracking, blade swinging loudmouth Wade Wilson in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and a revamped version of the same character in Deadpool.
How Did It Work Out?
For a long time a charismatic star searching for a franchise in which his charisma wouldn't just spill over into annoyance, Reynolds probably took the supporting roles in both the Blade threequel and X-Men prequel on the hope of a spin-off.
Both movies were terrible, however, and no follow-ups were forthcoming. Reynolds, playing very much to brash and cocky type, was at least one of the better things about both (at least until they sewed his mouth up and chopped his head off in Wolverine).
While a mooted Deadpool spin-off never really got off the ground, Reynolds had a string of huge blockbuster failures. Now, however, he's finally been given the chance to return to the character in what could be his last chance at headlining a franchise.
Early reports from the Tim Miller directed film suggest that it hews far closer to the darkly humorous, self aware character that comic book fans know and love. Could Reynolds have finally found a leading role to suit him? And could it be a part that he's already essentially failed in?
