Director Paul Feig is mostly known for directing female-led comedies like the very popular Bridesmaids and the polarizing Ghostbusters reboot. Oh, and more recently he directed the criminally underrated thriller A Simple Favor, which again featured a mostly female cast. And, if you haven’t watched that movie you should definitely check it out. It’s really good.
With his filmography in mind, it’s a bit surprising to discover that one of Feig’s favorite films is Casino Royale. Here’s what he told the New York Times about the film back in 2017, “...I could just watch every day. Daniel Craig is my favorite Bond. That opening parkour scene, that’s still one of the greatest action sequences in a movie.”
It’s not that Casino Royale is a bad movie. What's surprising is that Feig enjoyed a Bond movie at all. Let’s face it, the franchise has had its problems when it comes to depicting women on screen and is typically a million miles away from the movies he makes.
