10 Goriest Moments In The Evil Dead Franchise

ash evil dead Horror has its iconic franchises ranging from Halloween to Friday The 13th to A Nightmare On Elm Street and more, but they have always been (and always will be) playing second fiddle to The Evil Dead. Outside of putting director Sam Raimi on the map, the franchise also gave birth to one of the most revered and charismatic cinema heroes to ever exist in Ash Williams, charmingly played by the now legendary cult actor Bruce Campbell. Recently the series was resurrected from the dead in a remake which has now been confirmed by director Fede Alvarez as a sequel to the 1981 original. Not only is this awesome considering the latest installment is actually one of the sharpest and most respectable remakes Hollywood has ever put out, but both Alvarez and Raimi are now actively pushing for a crossover pair of films to round out this modern trilogy. Perhaps what propels The Evil Dead a step above other franchises however is the fact that it isn€™t a one trick pony. Instead of grouping together generic faceless characters to take pleasure in watching gruesomely die, there are characters like Ash that aren€™t only entertaining, but are some of the most memorable protagonists in the entire genre of horror. The franchise has also never truly relied on gore either. Despite often featuring an abundance of dismemberment, decapitation, and discolored blood spewing like a fountain in every conceivable direction it's proven that its real genius lies in the comedy. Whereas The Evil Dead is more of a straight-up slasher-horror soaked in brutality, (along with its modern remake/sequel) its sequel meshes sharply written humorous dialogue and slapstick comedy into the gore. It€™s effectively a genre bending experience that still hasn€™t been topped. The trilogy capper, Army of Darkness, took this comedic approach to the extreme surprisingly singling out the usual gore antics, but it too is unlike anything out there. So while the franchise is heralded for a number of reasons, in this article we will be focusing in on the sheer level of violence that actually caused the original 2 films to receive NC-17 ratings and bans in countries like Germany. If you love Army of Darkness, don€™t worry either because it€™s involved too.
