1. Prometheus (2012)

The world seems to be genuinely divided on this one. Some dedicated fans cited it as an undeniable masterpiece upon its release last year, whereas most movie-goers found Ridley Scott's sort of sequel to
Alien to be generally underwhelming in a number of aspects. Namely, its plot, which seemed kind of half-baked and confusing. Visually speaking,
Prometheus was astounding, and there's no denying that a lot of work went into making the movie - where it failed, however, was in the writing department. Logical flaws and a cast of extremely dim characters filled the script from head to toe, and for sci-fi nerds who take that kind of thing seriously (especially those who love
Alien), it was kind of unforgivable. There's no "hard sci-fi" to be found here. But the world that
Prometheus set up (or expanded on, if you like) is a seriously intriguing and beautifully-rendered one. And now that some of the major plot points have been raised (many of which are super interesting), a sequel is a perfect place to tell the story that this movie seemed to be trying to tell. That's to say, we've got Elizabeth and David (an android!) on route to a new destination, and the possibilites really are endless.
