10 Most Cringeworthy Performances By Otherwise Great Actors

5. Ben Kingsley - BloodRayne (2005)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnQUfI10pAs Ben Kingsley kind of perplexes me. On one hand, he's established himself as one of the greatest actors of his generation. On the other hand, he's picked some truly awful movie roles over the past decade or so that I seriously can't understand why in God's name he would have accepted them. Isn't that what an agent is for? Did Ben bump his head and fire his agent when he signed up to star in a Uwe Boll movie? Not to mention the fact that it was one of Boll's horrific video game adaptations - in this case, BloodRayne. My point is, then, that Ben Kingsley is somehow the best and worst actor ever. I've seen him do so much junk as of recent times, but his performance here - exacerbated by the sheer awfulness of the movie - takes the crown. He's sort of overacting whilst not acting at all. How is this the same man that played freakin' Gandhi and won an Oscar? It's the kind of performance you'd imagine was accepted for a quick buck, but Kingsley actually revealed why he went down this route:
"To be honest, I have always wanted to play a vampire, with the teeth and the long black cape. Let's say that my motives were somewhat immature for doing it."
Well, that's sort of, uh, adorable, I guess? Still, it's a horrible blemish on your filmography, Ben.
