17 Sex Scenes That Supposedly Weren't Simulated

2. Stranger By The Lake

An impressive, modish thriller, Alain Guiraudie's Stranger By the Lake opened to enthusiastic reviews upon its release in 2013, screening in the Un Certain Regard section at that year's Cannes film festival (and winning the independently awarded Queer Palm for best film with a LGBT throughline). The film concerns the "gay side" of a sunny, resplendent lake, a popular cruising spot for gay men. A sort-of noir in the vein of Fran├žois Ozon (whose Swimming Pool this at times echoes) Guiraudie's film is explicit and chock-full of nudity, though the extremely graphic unsimulated sex it does contain undoubtedly uses body doubles (though said doubles were, rather unusually, regular actors as opposed to porn stars). Still, this is one of the finest erotic films to come out in recent years, a taut, carnal thriller that shows just how far mainstream gay cinema has come since the days of Cruising.
