Previous Film: Gremlins 2: The New Batch took the series in an exciting new direction, toning down the scares and instead upping the cartoonish mayhem, satire and pop-culture references. The result is a rare sequel that improves upon the original, even if it completely tanked at the box office. Why It Needs To Happen: Because two films isn't nearly enough to do justice to the cuddly Mogwai protagonist Gizmo, and with 25 years having passed since the last film, number three would have a ton of pop-culture to mine. If the filmmakers opt for CGI over puppetry, though, they can forget about it. Current Status: Fans have been asking for a third Gremlins film ever since number two came out, but it just wasn't seen as a financially viable option, rather understandably. Talk has renewed occasionally over the years, most recently when it was announced that the franchise would be rebooted, though this has also been put on hold. This one sadly isn't very likely at all.
