2. Gore Verbinski & Johnny Depp

At its best the Depp/Verbinski partnership is mildly interesting; at its worst it is just plain terrible. Pirates of the Caribbean and Rango were fun enough but At Worlds End and Dead Mans Chest were simply horrible. There is an element of fun in the Depp/Verbinski partnership that shows itself in the right environment but too much of the time their films are characterised by overly complicated, formulaic plot twists. Self-indulgent and misjudged, as is so often the case with Depp these days, their collaboration acts as little more than an excuse for Depp to play dress ups.
