5 Superhero Movies Stuck In Development Hell (That Are Never Going To Happen)

1. Deadpool

deadpool Sorry Deadpool fans. But this film just isn't going to happen. Ryan Reynolds played the fan-favorite mercenary in 2009's abysmal X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which served as a complete bastardization of the character. Since then, Reynolds has been very vocal about his desire to return to the role and do the character justice. The movie has a script (from Zombieland scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Rheese), a star, and a director. All it's missing is a greenlight from 20th Century Fox. The sad thing is, it's been waiting on that green light for well over a year now, though Wernick and Rheese's script has been met with accolades from those who've had the chance to read it. The problem is, the script calls for an R-rated film that breaks the fourth wall by keeping in line with Deadpool's wacky persona. Miller has tried time and again to stress that the film can be made on a low budget, effectively minimizing the risk Fox would have to take by making it. The film wouldn't even harm the already muddled continuity of the X-Men universe. So, what's the big deal? Well, frankly, Fox just doesn't want to do it. If they did, it would have happened by now. It's frustrating, to say the least, to see a film that has all of its ducks in a row yet can't get made; despite having a ravenous built-in audience that virtually guarantees that it would be a success. Last month Miller and Reynolds both spoke about the slow development of the film, assuring fans that the project wasn't dead. But, if we've learned anything so far, it's that we probably shouldn't get our hopes up.
