7 Movies That Never Beat Their Awesome Opening Scenes

3. Deliver Us - The Prince of Egypt (1998)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Kr4aCUYg8A The first scene in the animated Moses-telling The Prince of Egypt is something of a masterpiece: the 6 minute-long "montage" that lays the foundations for this relatively unknown flick is a triumph in animation, music and storytelling. Unfortunately for those involved, it was simply too good - the rest of the movie never lives up to the awe-inspiring sequence we witness in Egypt's opening moments. Recapping the famous Bible story of how Moses came to live with the Pharaoh in Egypt with combined emotional and visual splendor, it's beautiful, touching and inspiring all at once - the kind of mind-blowing sequence primed to give you an unexpected dose of goosebumps. After this, though, despite the wonderful animation throughout, the movie drags somewhat and loses itself in an unappealing amount of seriousness. Still, this first sequence was worth the price of admission alone (the attached YouTube clip doesn't do it justice - track it down in HD).
