1. Colin Farrell (Iron Man)
But the hardest role of all to re-cast would ostensibly be that of Tony Stark aka Iron Man, the central figure of The Avengers and easily the most popular character, as typified by the astronomical box office returns of his latest outing, Iron Man 3 (currently sitting at $700m+ and climbing). Robert Downey Jr. has fused his own personality so inextricably with that of Stark that anyone else walking into the role would have a mammoth task on their hands, one that even the very best actor would likely struggle to contend with. Nevertheless, if Downey does decide to bow out, the show must go on, and I think the best choice to replace him would be Colin Farrell. Just
look at the above picture; Farrell has a strong resemblance to Downey's Stark, filling out a suit nicely and working a very similar hair style. He also proved in In Bruges that he can spit out the rapid-fire quick-wit dialogue as good as anyone. Though it would be tough getting used to the intonations and inflections of a new Iron Man, if Marvel were going to make the best of it, they would cast Farrell.
