3. Kevin Smith
Right from the first time Kevin Smith cast his wife, Jennifer Schwalbach, in
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, it was clear what was up. Playing one of a quartet of jewel thieves, she posed alongside Shannon Elizabeth, Ali Larter and Eliza Dushku, standing out like a sore thumb simply because we had no idea who she was. It is as though the film was running over-budget, and to compensate, Smith cast his own wife instead of any number of starlets who would have been lining up to take the role. Not to be too indelicate, but alongside the other three actresses, she is the most noticably plain of the group. Smith followed up by also casting her in small parts in
Jersey Girl, Clerks 2, Zack and Miri Make a Porno and
Red State, as well as two episodes of
Degrassi: The Next Generation that he wrote. It's no surprise that Smith loves his wife, but he does love to go on about her, having also written a New York Times Magazine article about how lovely she is, and then ended up photographing her nude for Playboy. Thus it follows that his flagrant insistence of his wife's hotness would transpire through to his already exuberant film career, as exactly it has.
