Golden Globes 2013: 10 Things They Got Wrong

7. Damian Lewis Wins Best Actor In A Drama

One of the most entertaining races to watch at the Golden Globes is the "Best Actor in a TV Drama" award, because it's always fiercely competitive, and right up to the bone pretty much anyone can win it. Damian Lewis took home the gong for his performance as Nicholas Brody on Showtime's Homeland, and great though his performance was, was it the best of the year's TV? Not a chance. While it's a given that he was always going to beat Jeff Daniels, who gives a strong performance against uneven material in The Newsroom, and both Steve Buscemi and John Hamm have already had their day with Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men for the last few years, his robbery of Bryan Cranston, who plays Walter White at his most brilliantly tortured in the latest season of Breaking Bad, definitely hits a nerve. Lewis' had to deal with some of the less-savoury convolutions of Homeland's second season, whereas Breaking Bad was pretty much perfection throughout the first half of its final season, taut, hilarious, and steered clearly towards the end-game in the coming months. Perhaps the HFPA are saving their Cranston praise for next year, after the last season has aired?
