Harry Potter: 10 Hardest Spells To Master

EXPECTO PATRONUUUUUUUUUM!

When reading a story about a witchcraft and wizardry, people who can change at will into animals, and can transport across great distances in the blink of an eye, you'd be forgiven for thinking that anything is possible. However, in J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, it's not quite as straight forward as that.

While witches and wizards could, in theory, learn to cast any spell, there is so much more to it than just theory. From the correct pronunciation of often difficult incantations to having to clear your mind of literally all emotion, some spells are a lot harder to master than others.

If any wizard could simply cast any spell just by reading the words off a page, there would be no need for Hogwarts at all save for the library. Instead, young witches and wizards are put through seven years of learning their craft, and even then, there are so many blanks that aren't, and may never be, filled in.

Even an incredibly gifted wizard like Harry Potter, who essentially became a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher in just his fifth year, couldn't master everything.

10. Any Non Verbal Spell

One of the first things Hogwarts newbies learn is just how important it is to speak clearly in the magical world. It's levi-O-sa, not levios-A, after all, and thanks to Harry's sloppy pronunciation when using floo powder for the first time, he ended up far from where he wanted to be.

This is an incredibly important aspect of most magic, and is something that every student needs to master. However, if you are a skilled witch or wizard, you can evolve into using non verbal spells.

This is, of course, where rather than chanting the incantation required out loud, it is simply summoned within the witch or wizard's mind. This is much more dangerous than casting a normal spell as there is a massively increased margin for error. A mispronunciation might end badly, but if anything popped into your head at the wrong time, who knows what could happen?

This takes an incredible amount of confidence and concentration, and it's no wonder Hogwarts doesn't begin to teach non verbal magic until students are in their sixth year.
