MCU: Can Secret Invasion Still Happen After Captain Marvel?

Will the Skrulls be back for more?

With Captain Marvel, the Skrulls have been properly introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A villainous race of shapeshifting aliens, the Skrulls are able to impersonate anyone they can lock eyes on, which makes them an extremely dangerous foe, and one that might come to define the MCU beyond Thanos and into Phase 4.

There's been a lot of speculation as to what comes next. Once the Infinity Saga is wrapped up with Avengers: Endgame, the MCU is going to be exploring more of the cosmic side of the universe. It also needs to introduce a big new threat - or threats - to take on the mantle as it builds towards another event, and it's been heavily theorised for some time that would be Secret Invasion.

The Secret Invasion storyline from the comics is a big crossover event, which reveals that the Skrulls have infiltrated Earth by impersonating a number of high-ranking officials across all sectors, and even some Marvel superheroes too, meaning various heroes need to band together to help save the day. You can see the potential when looking at team-up events, but Captain Marvel makes some big changes to the Skrulls that mean the future of Secret Invasion looks far less certain.
