11. The MK: Rebirth Callback

Super quickly, the very idea of Jax coming across Sub-Zero as a "fugitive" i.e. an iconic Mortal Kombat character being chased down in a real-world setting, feels like a nod to 2010's incredible fan film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.

Featuring Jax as the head of a task force hiring Hanzo "Scorpion" Hasashi to hunt down the serial killer known as Reptile, it reinvented the MK mythos in a way nobody saw coming, but fans totally adored.

Later turned into web series MK: Legacy when NetherRealm didn't back the project for a full movie, this one-man powerhouse of a production by Kevin Tanchaoren is still highly recommended.
