Right from the get-go - and you'll notice just how neatly this is threaded throughout the film - we open on a quote from statesman Afonso de Albuquerque, hinting at a lost treasure that he once came across on his travels.

This mimics the intro of all the games, but specifically the rather haunting line from Marco Polo that opens Uncharted 2:

"I did not tell half of what I saw, for I knew I would not be believed"

References to Albuquerque pop up multiple times later in the movie too, but we'll get to them in good time.
