With Quentin Tarantino and Paramount Pictures having toyed with the idea of having QT direct an R-rated Star Trek movie, Tarantino has now given an update on what he has envisioned for what certainly sounds like a unique trip for the Enterprise crew.

Speaking to Deadline, the director promised that his planned Star Trek movie - should it get made - will be “Pulp Fiction in space” and added that the R-rating he desires is so that the film fits in with Tarantino’s way of filmmaking and storytelling, rather than merely being an excuse to include sex and brutal bloodshed.

Quentin cited Deadpool as an example of taking an R-rated chance on something usually geared towards the PG market, as he explained that Paramount has “got nothing to lose right now when it comes to Star Trek”.

A script for Tarantino’s Star Trek is already being worked on by The Revenant’s Mark L. Smith, and the famed Reservoir Dogs helmer proudly explained how he had “never read a science fiction movie that has this sh*t in it”.

Some of these comments came in response to Simon Pegg previously bemoaning how Tarantino would just make Star Trek into "Pulp Fiction in space". And now the director has confirmed that yes, yes he will.

Up next for Quentin Tarantino is Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which hits the majority of markets July 26th – although UK audiences will have to wait until August 15th to see the movie.

Once that movie is done and dusted, then it will be time firm up whether or not Tarantino really is going to tackle the iconic Star Trek franchise.
