1. Tom Cruise Was Attached To Play Iron Man For 6 Years
Believe it or not, but the idea of an Iron Man motion picture has been doing the rounds since back in the early '90s. I know, right? Before proper CGI and everything! And it was Tom Cruise - you'll know him from such crowning moments as "couch jump" and "being a Scientologist" - who originally expressed an interest in climbing into old shellhead's iconic suit - as far back as 1998 (when Quentin Tarantino - of all people - was approached to write and direct). 6 years later, and Cruise was still attached to play Tony Stark. But when the movie failed to be made at this point, the man moved onto other projects - fair enough, he gave it 6 years. So what do we make of this casting decision, then? Aside from the fact that I can't visualise it at all, I don't think Cruise would've been anywhere near as effective as our man Downey Jr.. Cruise can manage intolerable and likeable both at once, sure, (he's done it for most of his career), but there's no still way this will ever make sense in my head. Sorry, Tom.
