10 Awesome Original Properties To Shake Up Gaming

3. The Last of Us

Naughty Dog has really made a name for themselves in the last few years, with the Uncharted series demonstrating the cinematic potential of games, to seamlessly weave cut-scenes into gameplay, and to make gameplay appear more fluid and diverse than ever. We're pretty excited then, for their new game, a gritty action adventure called The Last of Us. Taking place not long after an unspecified apocalyptic event, we follow Ellie and Joel, who are seeking to make it from one end of the U.S. to the other. While a lot of the people you encounter are just regular survivors, there is also a rabble of mutated, infected humans to deal with, so the pair will have to stay on their toes. From what we've seen so far, The Last of Us is a considerable departure from what we've seen in the Uncharted games; this is a title not so much about the cocky charm and swagger that Nathan Drake is known for, but it seems far more serious-minded and brutal. We expect the game to take us to some dark places, going by the original E3 demo, which had Joel mercilessly blast an assailant in the face after he begged him not to. It is that sort of moral ambiguity that is going to make this one of the most interesting games of the year, we expect.
