10 Greatest Downloadable Games Of 2012

7. Fez

If you haven't seen Indie Game: The Movie stop reading this, watch it, and come back. Whether you just got back or you never left, you need to understand one thing about Fez; it's adorable. You play as Gomez, a 2D creature who lives in a 2D world - or so he thought. Gomez meets the Hexahedron, who just before exploding, gifts Gomez with the titular fez, which allows him to perceive a third dimension. What follows is a game which straddles the line between the art of M.C. Escher and the 2007 game Super Paper Mario. The game itself plays as a 2D platform, with a very literal twist; if a jump seems to long, just twist the world around 90 degrees and a new platform might appear, if not twist it again. As you seek to put the Hexahedron back together to save your fractured world you explore different worlds, you'll be challenged but above all you'll be charmed by the simple premise but exquisite delivery. (Plus the "cover art" is by Scott Pilgrim scribe, Bryan Lee O'Malley, which gives it extra points in my book.)
