9 Ways Assassin's Creed Odyssey Is Dividing The Fanbase

"End the franchise!"

Assassins Creed Odyssey Kick
Ubisoft

As one of Ubisoft's most profitable and popular franchises, Assassin's Creed has been through the wringer more than once. Many will remember the sizeable launch day hiccups of Assassin's Creed III, the "Oh, thank god, it's good again" of Black Flag - and the complete next-gen disaster that was AC: Unity.

Following that, we've had the remarkably solid Syndicate, a two year hiatus and the series foundation-shattering AC: Origins. It's a rocky road no matter which way you slice it, and with Ubisoft now returning to an annual release model after having just restored faith in the property, they've also decided to invert fan expectations even more.

Understandably, there's been a backlash, and the game's various forums - from Reddit to Gamefaqs, Giant Bomb to IGN - are awash in people taking up one of two sides.

Either you really like the newer action focus, immediacy of play and array of special abilities... or you wonder what the hell Assassin's Creed has become.

For those of us who began this journey way back in 2007, you need only look at a screenshot or two to see a myriad of differences - not all for the better.
