Knights Of The Old Republic Remake - Everything We Know

What kind of remake is it going to be? And will KOTOR II be included?

KOTOR Remake
EA

In the halls of truly great RPGs, one name stands above the rest: Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic. Bioware's 2003 masterpiece has cemented itself in the hearts and minds of both Star Wars fans and RPG fans alike the world over as one of the all time greats. But 2003 was a long time ago, and the game has not aged well in terms of visuals.

So the obvious choice here would, of course, be to remake it. According to rumour, that might just be happening.

You would think this would've happened long ago, seeing as how if I were EA, I'd be doing literally everything in my power to build up as much good grace with my player base as I can, seeing as how the publisher has burned quite the number of bridges with that original release of Battlefront 2.

Well, through leaks, rumors and hearsay, we've learned quite a bit about this supposed remake. Not exactly a release date, but enough to know that it IS a thing that's happening.

What all do we know about this upcoming remake of the legendary Star Wars RPG? Read on to find out.

9. KOTOR Is Back In Canon

KOTOR Remake
LucasArts

The great thing about KOTOR is that it can come and go from canon as it pleases without anything really being affected one way or another. After all, that was the whole point of the game to begin with, as being made while the prequels were still being released, Bioware didn't want to potentially contradict current canon.

Fortunately, the sequel trilogy - which picks and chooses what from the original EU is and is not canon at its leisure - realized this, and took KOTOR out of 'Legends' and right back into mainstream Star Wars continuity. This comes in the form of an Easter egg found during the final battle of Rise of Skywalker, where Palpatine sends out various legions of new "Sith troopers".

While all of the legions are named after various Sith lords throughout the EU, one in particular is named after Darth Revan, the main character of the first KOTOR game. And if he's canon, it stands to reason that there's a chance for the rest of the KOTOR universe to join him - even if it gets revised heavily by this remake (more on that in a bit).

Thanks to this Easter egg, Knights of the Old Republic has been returned into the main continuity. At least the movie did something we can all agree is pretty much a net positive, because the Star Wars universe is a worse off place without Bastila. You know that I'm right.
