Another thing Nintendo need to stop doing, as mentioned above, is apologising. Hot of the heels of announcing the Wind Waker HD remake came an acknowledgment that no one bought it the first time around on the Game Cube. The 3DS price drop was a clear situation in which Nintendo owed everyone an apology. They proved their goodwill by offering free games. Not everyone was happy with that as a compromise, but hey sometimes these things happen. The massive day one update for the Wii U is another situation where they couldnt really ignore it, so acknowledge it and move on. Where it gets out of control is when Nintendo start apologising after giving out potentially exciting news only seconds earlier. In the latest Nintendo Direct they gave news and/or updates about a new Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2, but proceeded to apologise for the lack of videos or details about each one. Why do this? When you see a teaser trailer for the new Marvel Studios movie they end with Coming Soon and leave you hungry for more. They dont end with Were sorry, were not ready yet which is effectively what Nintendo keep doing. It dampens the impact of their announcements. There are times where you cant have blockbuster standard trailers, and for games like Wii Fit U such trailers would be completely inappropriate, but its all about balance. Nintendo should know their audience and cater accordingly. Its unlikely that octogenarians are hitting the Big Ns site for the announcements. It will be the core audience who tune in each time, and Hollywood style trailers would go a long way to keep them happy, and benefit their own image in the often harsh gaming and entertainment media. They proved they could do it many moons ago with the Zelda Twilight Princess reveal trailer, so maybe its time to revisit that way of thinking.
