In what's becoming a trend, Sony has again confirmed that the company won't be holding a Playstation press conference at E3 2020. This is following the console maker's decision to skip last year's conference as well, joining the likes of EA as major no-shows for the event.

In a statement release to GamesIndustry.Biz, the Playstation head honchos said:

"We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content. We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans."

It's a move that will take onlookers by surprise, especially considering the Playstation 5 is launching at the end of the year, but Sony have increasingly been taking major reveals and conferences into its own hands. With PSX the company essentially established its own mini-E3 all to itself late in the year, while State of Plays regularly update fans on games in development.

E3 2020 should still be loaded with new announcements and reveals though, and after the news broke, Xbox head Phil Spencer took to Twitter to confirm that Microsoft and the Xbox Series X will be showing up at E3 as usual.
