10 Deadliest Spells In The Harry Potter Universe

9. Diffindo

Voldemort Avada Kedavra
Warner Bros.

What does it do? Can be used to cut, rip and tear the target - useful for shredding paper. And humans.

Though Diffindo is always used for non-violent means in the Harry Potter universe of books and movies - Harry splitting the ice to reach the Sword of Gryffindor in Deathly Hallows Part 1, or in the books, Ron using it to trim the sleeves of his dress robes before the Yule Ball, for example - the deadly possibilities it possesses cannot be undersold.

If used for more sinister means, Diffindo has the capability to cause severe injury, or even death - and a rather bloody, messy death at that. It can cut and shred your opponent like a cheese grater on Red Leicester, which would be painful, to say the very least.

Diffindo's one of many spells like this in the wizarding world - ones that seem harmless if used safely, but could prove fatal is abused or misused - and given its wide variety of applications, it wouldn't be surprising if we see it pop up in one of the slated Fantastic Beasts sequels.
