10 Upcoming Movies You Didn't Know Were Based On Books

10. The Revenant

Bound to be one of the great cinematic highlights of the year (even though the world has to wait until December to watch it), The Revenant stars Leonardo DiCaprio as real life tracker Hugh Glass, who was abandoned in the American wilderness in 1823 by his companions and left for dead. What happens next, of course, concerns bloody revenge of the highest order. The book, which this time will be directed by Birdman's Alejandro González Iñárritu, has been adapted cinematically before. Well, at least, a version of the true story on which The Revenant was based was rendered as The Man In The Wilderness in 1971, which starred Richard Harris. Iñárritu's version of the movie is based on a 2003 novel called The Revenant by Michael Punke, though, which adapts and fictionalises the Hugh Glass story, sculpting it into a super dark revenge thriller. Will this prove itself to be the movie that earns Leonardo DiCaprio that elusive Oscar after years and years of great performances? If anyone can help him to win it, it's Iñárritu.
