Bullets get very hot when they're shot and are pretty much sterile by the time they enter the body and, in the same way that you shouldn't pull out anything that someone has managed to impale themselves one, rooting around in a bullet wound will do more harm than good.

You will probably want to remove it eventually to stop it burrowing into anything vital over the next 20 years, but it's not a middle-of-the-battle-field-any-dirty-tool-will-do kind of priority.
