5 Reasons Why Living In The USA Rocks For A Brit (And 5 Reasons Why It Sucks)

2. You Don't Need To Learn A Foreign Language (For The Most Part)

Another huge bonus of choosing to live in the US is that it's a fellow English-speaking country. Well, for the most part. That's not a reference to the fact that there are plenty of differences between British English and American English (which, of course, there are) but to how many people speak Spanish in the USA. As far as those amusing and sometimes confusing differences between the two types of English go, it's best to just smile and nod each time an American exclaims over how quaint some word choice is. By and large, the dialects are close enough that an American will usually know what the British ex-pat is talking about. Conversely, British people will start off with a solid grasp of American lingo, thanks to many years of exposure to US telly imports. Perhaps the only language-related confusion that regularly crops up is the peculiar American mispronunciation of the name of the UK's most popular sport. For some reason, they keep saying the word as "soccer".
