Science is all about answering the big questions: Who are we? Why are we here? Are we really all alone in the endless, infinite universe?

These lofty enquiries are all very well, but for those of us with burning questions a little closer to home, science can and will also deal with the most mundane problems we throw at it.

Should you leave the toilet seat up or down? Is there a cure for a hangover? What would really happen if everybody on Earth jumped at once? Luckily for us, there is no question too great or too small for science, and there are many experts out there who have devoted their time and effort to finding out the answers to these important questions. As it turns out, many of these seemingly simple problems have turned out to be just as strange and difficult to solve as some of the more "highbrow" science.
