2. Stewart Downing
0 goals. 0 assists. In this case, statistics do tell the story. Signed for roughly £20 million last summer, Downing quickly impressed on his debut against Sunderland with several dangerous runs, and was only denied a debut goal by the crossbar. Little did he know, but that was as good as it was going to get. Downing was a constant source of frustration for Liverpool fans last season, constantly flattering to deceive and consistently failing to deliver an end product. The woodwork denied him goals 4 more times, but in truth, Downing was thwarted mainly by his lack of confidence, both in front of goal and on the wings. Though it would be hard to deny that he possesses a fair amount of talent, his character was his downfall last season, leading him to hide away in games, take the easy option and generally fail to make an impression. Although Rodgers like's to play with two wingers, they tend to be closer to the centre forward, and provide a goal threat. With Downing's lack of goalscoring ability, his poor mental fortitude and old school style of wing play, he may not fit into Brendan Rodger's plans at Liverpool.
