4. Chris Smalling
Club: Manchester United The other young English talent at Manchester United might not pick up the same plaudits as Phil Jones has recently, or the kind of praise that Sir Alex has recently reserved for fellow centre-half Jonny Evans, but the former Fulham centre-half has a potentially big future at United. He was certainly counted as big enough of a talent to bring in from the London side, despite his young age, and if United want their investment to pay off, they will have to push him into the first team regularly sooner rather than later. We can probably expect Smalling to come on the same way Evans has if given the opportunity to cement a place in the first team, and at 23-year-old he's only going to get better in the coming years. Strictly speaking, United might not need to invest in a first choice centre-half for another ten years with the young talents they currently have at the club.
