Manchester United kick-off the Premier League season in just over a week's time when they take on Leicester City at Old Trafford on Friday 10 August.

It's fair to say their pre-season hasn't exactly been ideal preparation; manager Jose Mourinho has moaned constantly about his players, the media, results, and even went so far as to say he wouldn't have spent money to watch his own team during their tour of the USA.

United supporters are understandably concerned about how their side will do this season after failing to win a single piece of silverware last year, and consequently Mourinho is the bookies' favourite to be the first manager sacked.

With Man City running away with the league last season and Liverpool strengthening considerably over the summer, challenging for the title will be difficult, as will playing a style of football that will entertain the fans after 2017/18's dour displays.

However, despite the new season looming there is hope for the Red Devils yet; if United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is willing to open up the chequebook and Mourinho can sign several of these players, Man Utd may finally return to former glories...

5. Ivan Perisic (Inter)

The Inter Milan winger came close to joining Manchester United last summer and after a fantastic World Cup campaign for Croatia, including scoring in the final against France, he's has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the transfer window.

Last-minute signings always bring with them an inflated fee and if rumours are to be believed, getting the 29-year-old could cost £60m. Nevertheless, former player Mark Bosnich believes bringing him to Old Trafford could be the difference-maker that finally returns the Premier League title to the red half of Manchester.

Selling want-away winger Anthony Martial would free up funds for the Croatian who could form a lethal front three alongside Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku. Furthermore, United fans' main gripe last season was their side's dull, conservative style of play; bring in Perisic and Mourinho's team would be loaded with attack-minded players which may lead to a transformation that many (players included) have been crying out for.
