1. Gareth Bale

However, in my eyes not a single player can really touch the quality of Gareth Bale this season, which has led many commentators reckoning he is the third best player in world football at the moment (try and guess the top two). The PFA Awards are littered with players that could be considered "One-Man Teams" - Robin Van Persie, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona would probably fit the billing. But Bale this season has taken the phrase to levels never before contemplated. With Tottenham initially struggling to fit to new manager Andre Villas-Boas's tactics, Bale eventually hit top form after a third of the season and didn't look back. He was given freedom to roam as an attacking midfielder, and afforded himself and teammates great space and opportunity to score goals and pick up points in their pursuit of much-desired Champions League football. Bale has scored seventeen league goals (over a third of the whole teams goals) this season, including in important standout performances against Manchester United, Newcastle United, West Ham United and Arsenal. Against West Ham his performance went above and beyond the call of duty, showing that Bale holds one of the most important facets to being a winner of this award - he's an entertainer. Now an instantly recognisable face in British football, he could be heading for his second PFA Award at the age of only twenty-three. Whenever Bale has failed to perform, which is not often, then Tottenham just fail to turn up, which shows that his vitality to the club is paramount. Tottenham's biggest challenge after the season is to keep hold of their prized asset, and if he is to leave, another award could possibly add a few more million to the transfer fee.
Chances of winning: Joint favourite, my pick to get the nod
