Odds: 8/1 It might well sound like a fairy-tale start to his West Ham career, but a debut goal for Andy Carroll is about the safest bet of the entire weekend. The player not only has a lot to prove, he is also going to find West Ham's style of play, and Sam Allardyce's willingness to adapt to fit him in, to be the keys to a potentially successful and career-fixing season. Allardyce will have none of Brendan Rodger's arrogance about the player, and will happily change his style of play slightly to accommodate the former Newcastle United striker, and in truth it won't be too much of an adaptation from Allardyce's famously direct style. Carroll may well also relish the opportunity to play with old friend Kevin Nolan once more, with whom he formed a prolific partnership at Newcastle for a little under 18 months, and the two suit each other well in-play - Nolan picking up balls knocked down by the Geordie, and likely to profit with a few goals this season. Fulham may well have played well so far this season, but you'd be a fool to bet against a romantic start for Carroll. And even better, if the Hammers can pull off a slender 1-0 win thanks to a Carroll goal, punters could pick up impressive odds of 25/1.
6. Robin Van Persie To Score 2 Or More Goals vs Southampton
Odds: 5/1 This last transfer window stirred up a lot of focus for Wayne Rooney's situation at Manchester United, with the media suggesting that the England man may well be heading out of the club sooner rather than later (though obviously not this summer), but it will be his expensive striking team-mate who will do the business tomorrow against Southampton. Van Persie has looked good since joining from Arsenal, and he should take advantage of a comparatively inexperienced Saints back-line (in terms of the rigours of the Premier League) to score at least a couple of goals for United tomorrow in front of the Sky cameras. The likelihood of his having a good day is reflected in the relatively low odds, but 5/1 is still a massive price for a flutter no matter how spirited Southampton's attempts might be to fend off the Premier League runners-up. So there you have it - six big bets for this weekend of Premier League action. Spend your winnings wisely.
