Transfer Deadline Day: 6 Reasons We'll Never Stop Hating It

3. The Cult Of Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp doesn't need any excuse to talk about transfers, and lift the lid on the process of signing players. To reporters, and fans on the right side of the exchange, this makes him a delight to work with and a big part of Transfer Deadline Day, but for everyone else, who can actually see through his ruse of innocence and naivety, he is like a wasp sting: impossible to ignore and at times painful to endure. Redknapp will no doubt be interviewed in a car park, through his car window, as if it's not all set up, and he will talk with naïve abandon about someone else doing deals for him, or accidentally giving out details of players' release clauses without thought for consequence. To some this appears a charming idiosyncracy, but Harry is plainly not that stupid and he is happy to play the game, which spells success for Sky Sports, because they think we want to see it. We don't. Sooner or later, Sky Sports will resort to having a live Redknapp feed, whereby disinterested fans will be given updates by the minute of where the QPR manager is and which player he doesn't own he's about to talk about on air. It's only a matter of time. And no, that's not a typo in the sub-heading above...
